DotNetTricks Roadmap...New Site Name

Arbitrarily and without Robert H's consent, Andrew and i decided a couple of things the other day:

  1. We want to do a lot more with the site.  More authors, more articles and content, more time spent on it.  If you're an experienced programmer/developer and would like to join our three ring circus, please post something in the comments, or private message me.
  2. We have GOT to do something about the spam.  The spammers post massive comments to older articles and it really clutters up the place.  I'm hoping stricter moderation settings will fix this but i don't know if there's a bug in Community Server that allows them to get thru.
  3. We would like to get a little money back, so you may start seeing google ad words and I hope you'll click on them. ;)  Nothing overwelming though.
  4. We feel that we would like to branch out more and not be specific to just .NET and Microsoft technologies.  Don't get me wrong, despite my rant about ASP.NET, there are still things that i love about .NET and Microsoft and things in the works like Silverlight that get me hot and bothered.  But we've already strayed from strictly microsoft by talking about things like spam, Mac OS X, Ruby, etc.
  5. In that vein, we are discussing a new name for this site instead of "Dot Net Tricks'.  I know some  of my friends and plenty of strangers surf this site occasionally.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  If so, please PM me your ideas.
Although few people have read my last post about fixed bid contracts, and zero comments, (its probably something more for business people than geeks) I feel i should keep my promises.  So I will finish part II, hopefully some time this week.  In the meantime, if anyone has Domain Name suggestions, please leave them in the comments.

Thanks,
Craig

Craig,

I know its off post, comments are turned off ... concerning the fixed bids, you are right on... it seems to me that whenever i do a fixed bid project 2 things are inevitable.

1. I totally underestimate the scope of work and have to work way more than i anticipated (this is mostly because i havent learned to say NO to the client)
2. consequently because of 1, the quality of code i produce to meet the deadline suffers.

This is happening now to a freelance project im currently working on.

So yea, please finish Part II

Comments are moderated now due to spam, but i've been checking them more consistently lately.  Not sure why email notifications dont always work.

You need to say "NO".  Obviously this is partially just for your benefit so your not overworked and underpaid.  But part of it is to protect our clients from the harm that the fixed bid approach does to them and their projects.  Some fixed bid projects DO work, especially if they are small.  But more often then not, it is a "lose-lose" situation where the developer and the client are at odds with each other instead of collaborating and cooperating.

But more on that in Part Deux.

Glad you're interested.

Now someone got a new name for us?
